Flash Plug-in

I've posted the nifty Keyframe Jumper to the Adobe Exchange. It adds two great commands to Flash: "Next Keyframe" and "Previous Keyframe," which allow you to instantly jump from keyframe to keyframe, rather than nudging one frame at a time. It also loops from the last keyframe back to the first, and vice-versa. Thanks to Beau Brewer to helping me get the script working just right. This little beauty has saved me tons of time. I hope anyone who animates in Flash frame-by-frame gives it a try.

Once you download the file, open the Adobe Extension Manager, then click File > Install Extension. Browse to the downloaded .MXP file. It will show up under the "Commands" menu once it's installed. I like to set the keyboard shortcuts to Alt+. and Alt+, as it is in Maya.

There and Back Again

I just got back form my trip to visit Michel Gagné. This trip has been in the works since I first met Michel last fall through my 2D EFX animation mentor, Ryan Woodward, who did his EFX apprenticeship under Michel at Warner Bros back in the day.

I've got to say, the trip was "insanely inspirational," as Michel would put it. As an up-and-coming 2D effects animator, it was a dream come true. I got to see the show titled "Fixed Fragmented Fluid." I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. It was an hour of improvised Gagné visual effects (yeah, kinda hard to explain) mixed with Barry Guy-style improv jazz. Very fun. A few days later, I got to visit with Michel at his home studio for a few hours, and see how he works. The next day, I was at the Fuel Cell game studio in Seattle. I got a nice preview of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. The guys over there have really got a great game coming together so far. It looks amazing.

All-in-all, it was a fantastic experience for me. I'm more inspired now than ever. Being around a guy like that is automatically energizing and inspiring. Thanks for having me over, Michel. You rock.

Dog Fighting

Today is the release date of Smart Bomb Interactive's "Snoopy Flying Ace." Even though i didn't personally work on it, I'm proud to be a part of the company that produced it. It's a very fun, very intense dog fighter for Xbox Live. Y'all should check it out.

Sweet Gig

Earlier this week, I started my new job, working at great game studio called Smart Bomb Interactive. So far, I absolutely love my job, doing some sweet stylized 2D EFX animation for their fist ever 2D game. The game looks great, with a very distinct and appealing style. I love the work environment. Everyone seems to be self-motivated, and management is mostly hands off, letting the creative juices flow out all over the place. It's a metaphoric lake of creativity!
